Data sources

Sourced country metrics.

Compare Countries uses Natural Earth for boundaries and public statistical datasets for country-level metrics. Each metric in the app displays its source and reference year when available.

Map boundaries

Country and territory outlines are derived from Natural Earth 1:50m Admin 0 geometry. Natural Earth is used as a geographic visualization base and is not used as a source of current economic or demographic statistics.

Statistical sources

The metric catalog uses sources such as the World Bank World Development Indicators, FAO data products, U.S. Energy Information Administration datasets, and other public global datasets where available.

Because sources update on different schedules, the most recent comparable reference year can vary by metric. Some countries may have no observation for a selected metric.

Commercial reuse review

Before launch, each source should be reviewed for commercial reuse and attribution requirements. The public app only displays source names and reference years; internal data-health review tools are kept out of the public navigation.
